Mike Rogers thinks representing mortgage lenders is more important than taking care of the voters in Michigan’s 8th Congressional District.

Mike Rogers (R-Brighton) was once again on the wrong side of the issue when he voted against a bill to help American homeowners.  The bill, which passed the House (272-152), authorized funding to help up to 400,000 families keep their homes and contained $3.9 billion in local government grants to purchase and rehab foreclosed properties in at-risk neighborhoods. In addition, the bill provided tax credits for new homeowners and federal support for Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.  The support for Freddie and Fannie is tied to new regulation of the mortgage giants, including the power to limit executive compensation at the companies.  Read More

LANSING, Michigan — Late yesterday, Congress easily overrode President Bush’s veto of the 2008 Medicare bill, and avoided drastic cuts to health care providers. Over 150 House Republicans voted for the override, but Rep. Mike Rogers (MI-08) was not among them.

Rogers strongly supports the current system of hefty payments to private insurance companies at the expense of doctors who care for elderly and disabled patients. Read More
