Rogers Flip-Flops on Energy Policy

East Lansing, MI –Two new TV spots feature Mike Rogers extolling the virtues of “harnessing the wind,” as well as the sun and biomass to reduce dependence on foreign oil. In one ad, Rogers lists wind, solar energy, American oil, alternative fuel and energy-efficient cars as ways to create jobs and make America energy-independent. In another, he mentions nuclear power, wind, solar energy and biomass with no reference to domestic oil.

Rogers’ Democratic challenger Bob Alexander (in a view supported by Friday’s endorsement of Alexander by The Lansing State Journal) points out that Rogers has voted consistently and recently against tax incentives for alternative energy, and in support of the domestic oil industry:

Poll Shows Alexander Can Beat Rogers

Bob Alexander: Rogers Misleading on Bailout Vote

East Lansing, MI – Bob Alexander says he is glad that Republican opponent Mike Rogers voted against the proposed $700 billion bailout plan that failed in the House this afternoon, but that Rogers is not telling the whole story about his position on the fiscal crisis.

In a statement made after the vote on Monday, Rogers said that the Bailout plan ”does not focus on our real problems — a struggling economy, foreclosures and falling home values.” He adds that alternative plans could provide “assistance for struggling homeowners,” and that he will “keep working” to “keep families in their homes.”

Marianne Williamson Endorses Bob Alexander

East Lansing, MI- Bestselling author, lecturer, radio and television personality Marianne Williamson has endorsed 8^th District Congressional Candidate Bob Alexander. Williamson warmly expresses her regard for Alexander, and her support for his platform in a YouTube video that will also be included in Williamson’s online newsletter, sent to thousands of her friends and associates.

Williamson, founder of The Peace Alliance, met with Alexander during the Democratic Convention in Denver after having worked with him on previous campaigns. She endorsed Alexander’s entire platform.

Bob Alexander Raises Money and Profile in Denver

Bob Alexander, Democratic nominee for Michigan’s 8^th Congressional District, headed to Denver early Sunday morning, driving his Chevy Malibu hybrid. Alexander planned to make connections and raise money for his campaign using a “one-stop” approach instead of traveling around the state meeting with potential donors and supporters. Accompanying Alexander on the 38-hour round trip are the campaign’s Operations Manager, a Field Organizer and a videographer. The group’s Denver activities are being chronicled daily on the nationally known E-zine “One for the Table.”

Alexander YouTube Video Highlights Foreclosure Tragedy

East Lansing, MI- 8^th District Democratic Nominee Bob Alexander has released a 5-minute YouTube video highlighting the plight of Michigan homeowners and farmers facing foreclosure. At a time of record foreclosure rates in Michigan, Republican Congressman Mike Rogers accepts money and favors from Trott & Trott, one of the nation’s largest mortgage foreclosure law firms. Rogers has accepted in-kind support from Trott & Trott in every election cycle since 2000. Rogers also voted against recent legislation that offers assistance to citizens losing their homes to foreclosure.

Save the Crosby Mint Farm!

St. Johns, MI – The oldest continuously operating mint farm in the United States is in foreclosure and will be auctioned tomorrow at 3:00 PM at The Clinton County Courthouse. Established in 1912, The Crosby Mint Farm in St. Johns is the oldest mint farm in a town famous for its annual Mint Festival.

A growing number of citizens, public officials, and activist groups are outraged by the potential loss of this cherished family farm, which symbolizes the struggles faced by small and medium-sized farms across the state. There will be a pre-Auction rally at the Farm, located at 1250 E. Parks Road in St. Johns on Thursday, August 14^th at 2:00 PM.

Alexander Supports Equal Wages for Women

Lansing, MI – All Democratic Michigan members of Congress voted for Equal Wages for Women as the Paycheck Fairness Act, H.R. 1338, passed the House of Representatives on July 31, 2008. Bob Alexander, 8^th District Democratic Congressional nominee, strongly affirmed “I would have co-sponsored and voted for this crucial bill. Competent women hold the positions of Director, Media Director and Treasurer in my campaign. It is outrageous that equal pay is still an issue in 2008. Alexander Endorses Obama Energy Plan

Lansing, MI – Democratic Congressional candidate Bob Alexander met with Sen. Barack Obama at a private reception just before Obama’s New Energy for America speech at the Lansing Center earlier today. Alexander joined Governor Jennifer Granholm, Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow and other elected officials in welcoming Obama to Lansing.

Alexander was thrilled to meet Sen. Obama, and was pleased with the similarities in their ideas for energy independence and Michigan’s economic recovery.

Obama’s speech focused on the need to develop multiple types of renewable energy, calling for a $150 billion investment in clean energy over the next ten years. He also outlined his support for the auto industry, including $4 billion in loans and tax credits for investments in plug-in hybrid car technologies, leveraging private capital to help bring the vehicles to market, and $7,000 tax credits for consumers who purchase these new fuel-efficient cars.
